3 Ways You Can Improve the Content on Your Restaurant’s Website

Having updated, well written, and well thought out content on your restaurant’s website could be the difference between a customer making a reservation and going somewhere else.

You might think of your website as a “set it and forget it” part of your business, but keeping the content current will only help you improve the user experience of your site, as well as increase your Google rankings. Here are a couple of places you can check in with your site to see if everything is current and up-to-date. And if it’s not, there are ways to easily update the content and make your website stand out from the rest.

1. Make Improvements to Your “About” Page

The “About Page” is a great opportunity to tell the story of your brand. On this page, you can go into the background of the owners and founders, and tell the story of how your restaurant came to be. Did your great-grandparents start a small restaurant in Italy years ago and you are continuing the tradition? Were you a home baker who was encouraged by family to open your own business? All of this is interesting to your customer. The more you can make your “About Page” into a well-written story, the more people will relate and respond warmly.

Your “About Page” is also a great spot to put your Mission Statement. This should be a 1 – 3 sentence blurb of the intention of your business. Are you committed to locally sourced foods? Do you want to bring new and modern cuisine to a more traditional food scene? Let people know what you’re all about in an easily digestible little bit of copy.

2. Update Your Chef and Staff Bios

We can all name some well-known celebrity chefs, but just because your chef’s not on the Food Network (yet) doesn’t mean they aren’t a celebrity in their own right in your city or town. There are also a lot of other talented people who make your restaurant amazing, and they deserve to be featured too. If you aren’t too excited about writing all of them yourself, it’s okay to request that everyone submit a little 50 to 100-word bio of themselves for your website. Hire a photographer to come in one day and shoot your restaurant, food, and staff, so you will have a whole new selection of imagery to post on your site and on social media. Make it a little “staff appreciation” event but still get some work done while you’re having fun!

3. Start a Blog and Blog Regularly

Did you know that posting to a blog 4 times per week can get you more traffic to your site than posting 0 – 4 times? It’s also a great opportunity to connect with your customers and make them feel like they really know you. Remember, blogs are seen as new content to your site. Every time you post new and relevant content, you are increasing your chances of ranking better, being shared on social media, getting linked to by other sites, and attracting new customers.
