5 Things Your Restaurant Can Blog About

restaurant blogging tips

As a restaurant owner or manager, keeping your website’s blog up-to-date is probably not even on your list of things to do. And if it is, I’ll bet it’s dead last.

But there are actually some really great topics sitting right in front of you that will make for some awesome blog posts.

There are things that are part of your everyday life that to a lot of people, would be super interesting to learn more about. You might not see it that way because it’s part of your routine, but giving people an inside look into your world would make for some great content that they will eat up, and then share with their friends. And that’s our ultimate goal. 😉

1. New Menu Items

Have you added on some new menu items recently? Chances are those recipes didn’t just come out of nowhere. Maybe you were inspired by some recent travels. Maybe this is a version of something your dad or grandma used to make when you were growing up and you have modernized it. Whatever the story is behind the food, your customers would love to hear about it. It could even help sell more of those items once people know the back story.

2. Interview With the Chef

There’s a person back there running the show with a lot of talent and they deserve a nice feature article. You could even go through all of your staff this way, doing an interview that can be transcribed into a blog. Interviewing your executive chef is a great place to start. Here are some questions you might consider asking:

  • What was your first food memory?
  • When did you know you wanted to be a chef?
  • Where did you get your training?
  • What is your favorite food city?
  • Where is your dream food vacation?
  • What’s your favorite thing to do outside of the kitchen?
  • What’s your go-to meal after a busy shift?

3. Spotlight on Your Regulars

We all love those regulars – especially the people who have been coming into your eatery for what feels like forever. Or maybe you have generations of family members who have been patrons of your establishment. What a treat it would be for them to be featured on your website! This is another opportunity to do a simple and informal interview, record it, and transcribe it into a blog post. There is nothing wrong with having your articles in Q&A format.

4. Local Festivals and Attractions

As a small business it’s important to show your support and involvement in the community. Each season probably has a new festival or attraction which makes for an easy blog topic at least four times per year. Want to give your fellow business owners or chamber of commerce some extra digital love? Include links back to their websites or articles when talking about them. (Just remember to have the article open in a new tab.)

5. “Make It at Home” Tutorial

I’m not suggesting that you give away any of your restaurant’s secrets, but even going through a simple tutorial on how to cut onions, julienne carrots, or bake bread would be really great content for the readers of your blog. This is another opportunity for current and seasonal blog posts too. Your head mixologist, for example, could write out the steps for a few of his custom cocktails, or your pastry chef could give their expert tips on how to not ruin cheesecake.

Overall – keep things seasonal, fresh, original, and not too overcomplicated. (And at least 500 words.)
